Linking Key CRMX

The Linking Key is a crucial feature in LumenRadio's CRMX technology, used to securely link transmitters and receivers in a wireless DMX/RDM setup. Here's a detailed explanation of how it works and how to use it:

What is a Linking Key?

A Linking Key is an 8-digit user-defined code that allows seamless linking of CRMX devices. This key can be used to:

  • Link Receivers to a Transmitter: By entering the linking key into the receiver, it can be linked to the transmitter without initiating the linking process on the transmitter.
  • Clone Transmitters: Multiple transmitters can be configured with the same linking key to act as if they were the same transmitter. This is useful for maintaining consistent connections across different physical locations without the need to re-link receivers.

How to Use the Linking Key

  1. Setting Up the Transmitter:
    • Ensure the transmitter has a linking key set. This key will be used to identify and link with receivers.
  2. Linking Receivers:
    • Enter the linking key into the receiver. This action will automatically link the receiver to the transmitter using the same key, bypassing the need for manual linking on the transmitter.
  3. Cloning Transmitters:
    • Enter the same 8-digit linking key into multiple transmitters. These transmitters will then operate as if they are the same unit, allowing receivers to connect to any of the transmitters without re-linking.
Best Practices
  • Choose a Secure Key: Ensure the linking key is not easily guessable. Avoid using simple or common sequences like 12345678, 11111111, etc. A secure key helps in maintaining the integrity and security of your wireless DMX network.
  • Avoid Overlapping Coverage: When using cloned transmitters, ensure they are not in the same physical coverage area to prevent confusion among receivers about which transmitter to connect to.

By following these guidelines, you can efficiently and securely manage your CRMX wireless DMX/RDM setup, ensuring reliable and consistent performance.

Compatibility Considerations

When using Linking Keys across multiple transmitters, remember that overlapping coverage areas can lead to connection issues. If two transmitters with the same linking key are within the same vicinity, receivers might struggle to determine which transmitter to connect to. Always plan the physical placement of transmitters to avoid overlapping signals.
